Combative attacking midfielder signed from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2006. Brown first emerged with Manchester City in the mid-1990s, his all-action style winning him England Under-21 honours and favour with the Maine Road faithful. He moved on to Sheffield United in 2000, where Blades fans also appreciated his box-to-box style. He added goalscoring to his game in South Yorkshire, and was the outstanding player in the Red and Whites' memorable 2002/03 campaign, top-scoring with 22. Moved to Spurs in January 2004 and opened his account for his new club in the 4-4 draw with Leicester the following month.
