A naturally gifted all-round player, he joined Gremio as a youth player and made his debut aged 16, scoring the crucial goal to help the club back to the top division. Started his international career with the Brazil Under-17s and won the Adidas Golden Ball at the 2005 FIFA Under-17 World Cup. Joined Porto in December 2005 and helped the team win the Portuguese Championship. Anderson agreed to join Manchester United in June 2007 along with fellow Portugal-based midfielder Nani.
