Profile
Combative midfielder who signed from Manchester City in June 2007. He came into his own during in the 2005/06 season for City and establised himself as a forward-thinking player who can score important goals. Barton was rewarded for his performances with a new four-year deal in July 2006 and played a key role in his side's Barclays Premier League survival. The Liverpool-born midfielder was called up to the England squad for a friendly with Spain in February 2007, where he made his debut as a second-half substitute.
