The versatile Portugal international joined West Ham from London rivals Fulham for an undisclosed fee in January 2007. He had earned a £1.7million move to Craven Cottage from Southampton in 2001 after a season-long loan spell in which he made a huge impact. A sweet striker of the football, he scored the fastest goal in Fulham's history - after 12 seconds at Bolton Wanderers in September 2000 - and was made club captain in 2005.
