The young keeper made his name known with the climax of Sunderlands 2004/2005 League Chapionship winning season and was awarded the No1 shirt for the 2006/2007 season before travelling with the team during there tour of the USA. He transferred to Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the 2007/2008 season however due to loan deals his appearances for the club were limited. Alnwick has been called up for the England U21 squad four times debuting in a friendly against Romania.
