In his first season at Birmingham in 2002 he led them to Premiership promotion and shepherded them through three seasons in the top flight before they once again dropped down into the Championship. Despite a slow start to the season and calls from the fans for him to quit Bruce held his hands up and admitted responsibility then once again boosted the team back to the Premiership. Bruce resigned from Birmingham in 2007 is undergoing a second spell at Wigan.
